I’m groot!

The other weekend I went down the the seaport district of NYC, it is a cool place to shoot because of the proximity to water and the cobble stone streets, they also don’t allow cars to drive on a lot of the roads so you can get some cool middle of the street pictures! I went to see a movie at this theater called iPic, I had never heard of it before that day but it has got to be one of the coolest/upscale theaters in the city. You get a little private area for you and your date and you can order from the restaurant with a waiter. (hint get the truffle fries and the pretzels!). The movie we saw was Guardians of the Galaxy, I don’t normally like space movies but this one was pretty funny and I LOVE baby groot! He has some sweet dance moves and I find myself replying to people saying “I am groot” (ok the people are really only Bobby and he is starting to get pretty annoyed with it but I think it is funny, shhhh 😉 )

As you all know, black is my favorite color and wearing all black is an everyday thing for me. I mean New Yorkers have this thing for all black, it isn’t uncommon to see someone in the middle of summer wearing all black, maybe that’s why I felt so at home when I first moved here! (If you think I am bad, you should see Bobby’s closet). So you can imagine when I got my first Marias bag I had a big “what do I wear with this” moment.

If you wear all black your outfits always match and I now found myself trying to plan a cool outfit with colors I don’t normally use. I wanted to keep the colors muted and not wear a loud pair of pants or shirt/jacket so I could let my bag do the talking but I also needed my outfit to match my Marias bag. I found my inspiration at Gucci! (I know, who can’t find inspiration at Gucci, right??). They totally brought back the whole patches/embroidery trend recently and I wanted to recreate it.

I got these jeans from Abercrombie (yes, I still shop there sometimes and yes, you can still find some cool – cheap- high quality – stuff!), and the embroidery adds a bunch of colors to the outfit that brings it together with my bag yet still keeps the classic jeans look. I paired it with a plain white tank, a nude colored leather motto jacket, and a pair of heals that borrowed the nude from the jacket and a splash of color to match the bag/patches. As you guys know I have quite a bit of bags in my closet but none of them offer a connection with the women who weave the textiles that go into making the bags. The weaving is like a morse code that tells the story behind the individual weaver. The bags are all one of a kind so no one will be able to jack your style!

As a disclaimer I work for Marias but I wouldn’t work for a product I didn’t believe in, so go check out the website and let me know what you think!

Rouge

I have to say – I’m usually not a red lipstick kind of girl, It’s tends to look too elegant and feminine for my style. So you could imagine when I recently received the Rouge Silky Satin lipstick from the Christian Louboutin collection I wasn’t thrilled (except for the packaging, so nice!). I feel so bad asking someone to exchange a gift for me that I usually donate the ones I don’t want, but who donates Louboutin, right?! I was recently heading out of the house and really didn’t have a lot of time to get ready, I saw the lipstick sitting on my counter and figured what the hell I may as well give it a shot. I quickly realized that having red lips is the easiest way to get ready. I just need to do my brows and put on some red lipstick and I get the easiest, fastest and most elegant look ever . Plus, it’s the holidays so you know what that means ~ everything matches my lips!

Winter is slowly coming, and I’m slowly getting my fur coats out from my closet (too bad they seem to never find their way back – instead they tend to end up in a massive pile on the bench by my front door – I usually tell Bobby it is for when I have to throw one on to walk the dogs so he doesn’t have to but that’s not true (shh!). I found this raccoon fur scarf over the summer that I wasn’t going to buy but I couldn’t pass it and knew it would come in handy, it has become one of my favorite scarves lately. It goes with everything I wear, and it easily makes my outfit look so elegant, I go from zero to one hundred real quick. What I normally do is put it over the collar of a normal coat- immediately makes your coat look SO MUCH more expensive and your guaranteed to get.

Speaking of looking elegant, the bag that I’m carrying is one of a kind and gives even the gloomiest of outfits so much pop. The textile is from Guatemala and all the bags the company makes have different colors, weaving and even meanings. It’s like a morris code of the weaver’s life and social class on a piece of wonderful huipil (don’t worry I didn’t know what that was either, apparently it’s the term of Guatemalan clothing).

“Anything that annoys you is teaching you patience. Anyone who abandons you is teaching you how to stand up on your own two feet. Anything that angers you is teaching you forgiveness and compassion. Anything that has power over you is teaching you how to take your power back. Anything you hate is teaching you unconditional love. Anything you fear is teaching you courage to overcome your fear. Anything you can’t control is teaching you how to let go. “

Now that I’m officially a graduate, I can focus more time on blogging and traveling. Most of you might be wondering what I will be doing after school, frankly speaking, I don’t know. This is a blank page in a new chapter , and I should take my time to plan out my future. Speaking of which, I will be going to Cali next week, then Hong Kong in July. Traveling helps expand my perspective, and make me realize what to prioritize.

I’m wearing a chiffon backless Alice + Olivia  bodysuit, which can be easily paired with a blazer with jeans for a day time look, or paired with a maxi slit skirt for a night time look. I wouldn’t wear a necklace because I don’t want to cover the neckline which plunges to a deep V. I like to keep this outfit simple and classy- you don’t want to be showing too much skin and become trashy.

“Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. Live in the faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you!”  Christian D. Larson
